Six people have died during trials of a coronavirus vaccine from the American pharmaceutical giant Pfizer and the German company BioNTech, according to a report from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Four of the deceased received a placebo, two - the vaccine itself. One of the patients in the vaccine group suffered from obesity and atherosclerosis, he died three days after the first dose of the drug. The second deceased volunteer had a heart failure 60 days after the second dose was administered, RIA Novosti reports.
Among those who received a placebo, two died from heart attack and stroke, the cause of death of two more is being established. Of the six who died, three were over 55 years old. In total, about 38 thousand people over 16 years old took part in the tests.
On the eve it became known that those vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine experienced serious side effects. Earlier, a participant in the Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus vaccine trial spoke about the side effects that appeared the day after the drug was administered.
In November, Pfizer volunteers spoke to the British media about the side effects. The third vaccine trial involved 43.5 thousand people. Some of the volunteers complained of headaches, fever and body aches, while others compared the side effects to a severe hangover. The participants in the experiment note that this was most pronounced after the second injection.
Meanwhile, in November, the European Commission announced the purchase of 300 million doses of Pfizer vaccine. In the same month, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy asked German Chancellor Angela Merkel to assist in gaining access to vaccines from BioNTech and Pfizer.
