Even moderate alcohol consumption is a factor that increases cancer risk - people who drink alcohol are more likely to develop several types of cancer at once. This statement was made by experts from the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), speaking in the Journal of Clinical Oncology. They emphasize: from the point of view of the development of cancer, alcohol is dangerous as such.

The consumption of alcoholic beverages should be minimized to the limit, noted scientists from ASCO. According to them, alcohol increases the risk of developing cancers of the oropharynx and larynx, esophagus, liver, breast and colon, even in conditions of not too much drinking.

ASCO experts stated that people do not associate alcoholic beverages with cancer. Experts cite data from the National Cancer Opinion Survey showing that 70% of Americans do not perceive alcohol as a cancer trigger. The consumer is clearly underestimating the link between drinking and cancer, analysts say.

In their opinion, it is necessary to educate the public about the cancer risks associated with alcohol addiction. "Since 2012, 5.5% of all new cases of cancer and 5.8% of all deaths from cancer in the world have been associated with alcohol consumption," the specialists said in a statement.
