Scientists have found a new way to lose weight without much physical exertion. To do this, you just have to watch horror films and then the result will not keep you waiting long. British scientists from the University of Westminster spoke about the benefits of the horror genre and conducted relevant studies.

Scientists have organized an experiment with volunteers who agreed to watch horror films and lose weight at the same time. As it turned out, all test subjects inhaled oxygen and exhaled carbon dioxide in much higher quantities while watching horror films than in the calm state before the session. Experts determined that the volunteer's body burned a third more calories than before watching movies, due to human physiology.
The fact is that under the influence of fear, the appearance of which was provoked by a horror movie, the heart rate accelerates and adrenaline is released, after which the body begins to spend more energy. The metabolic rate is also increased, which together causes the body to lose calories. In short moments of intense stress, appetite is lost, which promotes weight loss.
The number of calories burned depends on the level of stress that the body receives while watching horror movies. Scientists were able to determine that during a session of an average horror movie, a person loses up to 113 kcal, which is equal to a 30-minute walk.
Experts have determined which horror films can make a person lose more calories and the main winner in this race was Stanley Kubrick's horror film The Shining. It lasts 2 hours and 26 minutes, but during this time you can easily lose up to 184 kcal in total. The top ten films that are most effective directly for weight loss also included Jaws, The Exorcist, Alien, Saw in 2004, the classic version of A Nightmare on Elm Street, as well as The Paranormal, The Blair Witch”,“Reportage”and“The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”.
