Gastroenterologist and nutritionist Irina Berezhnaya warned in an interview with Sputnik radio that overeating can lead to problems that only a surgeon can fix.

She recalled that a person's feeling of fullness does not appear immediately after eating food, but after about 20 minutes. If you manage to eat more food than the body needs before this moment, overeating begins. If this happens often, there is a risk of distension of the stomach.

The specialist advised people who eat much more than they need and want to monitor their weight, frequent and fractional meals. These should be small, high-calorie meals, she explained. “After a few months, the volume of the stomach is normalized, because it is a muscular organ,” the doctor said.

Overweight people have significantly more stomach volume than thin people, she said. They tend to have the stomach wall stretched to the point where surgery is needed.

Earlier, valeologist Nadezhda Chernyshova told how to recognize the moment of overeating. It is often difficult to determine when to stop and not eat more, she said. One of these signs will be a feeling of distension of the stomach after eating, sometimes painful, as well as belching, discomfort in the abdomen, fermentation of gases.
