Adhering to a vegetarian diet, it is necessary to supplement the diet with a special vitamin and mineral complex. Director of the Federal Research Center for Nutrition, Biotechnology and Safety, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Dmitry Nikityuk announced this during an online conference.

“If a person adheres to a strict herbivorous diet, it is necessary to constantly supplement the diet in order to maintain vital activity by the fact that he does not receive enough with this plant food - vitamin-mineral complexes, specialized products. Their market is wide enough. Unfortunately, they are mostly imported; the domestic market is also developing now. In addition to this, such a vegetarian diet can take place. There are vegetarians in different categories of society - among athletes, among children and adults. But if the food law is violated, it leads to bad consequences,”Nikityuk said.

He added that about 170 biologically active compounds should enter the human body with food every day.

“The Institute of Nutrition has calculated that in addition to the energy that we consume with food, about 170 biologically active compounds should enter the human body every day. If they are not there, then micronutrient deficiency occurs,”Nikityuk explained.
