“Medical organizations in Russia have formed the necessary reserve of methylprednisolone, which is used to treat coronavirus. In addition, work is underway to increase the production of drugs based on it and the import of methylprednisolone, because it is not manufactured in Russia,”Yevgeny Nasonov said in a comment to RBC.
In 2020, 442.2 thousand packages of the drug in the form of a solution for intravenous and intramuscular injections were produced in Russia. More than 2.2 million packages of methylprednisolone were produced in the form of tablets, Roszdravnadzor reports.
“Patients undergoing treatment with methylprednisolone for rheumatic diseases should not be interrupted. It is also possible to temporarily switch to drugs based on prednisolone, but initially it is imperative to consult with your doctor,”said Evgeny Nasonov.
Earlier in the media there were reports of a shortage of drugs based on methylprednisolone in Moscow and Moscow region pharmacies. People suffering from rheumatic diseases were not able to get the drug even on benefits.
