In the future, vaccination against coronavirus will also have a seasonal nature, as is now the case with influenza, said Nikolai Kryuchkov, Ph. D., immunologist. “Now there is no such problem, because the infection is not completely seasonal, but epidemic, now there is a pandemic. It's another matter that later, when the infection becomes seasonal, then practically the same recommendations will be as now for influenza,”Kryuchkov said on the air of Sputnik radio. He recalled that the strength of the immunity against influenza in the body lasts for about a year and a half, because of the antigenic shift, revaccination must be carried out every season. The expert clarified that, most likely, given the mutational activity of Covid-19, which is lower than that of influenza, it is the tension of immunity that will play a large role. “We do not yet know how long-term immunity is provided by existing vaccines. There is a hope that for at least a year the immunity will remain strong enough to prevent severe manifestations of coronavirus infection and, possibly, even reduce the incidence, the rate of spread of infection, "added Kryuchkov. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 2,375,546 cases of coronavirus infection have been identified in Russia, 41,607 cases have died, 1,859,851 patients have been cured.
