What are the consequences of a lack of magnesium in the body, said nutritionist, doctor of medical sciences, professor Alexei Kovalkov.
According to the expert, the human body contains no more than 28 grams of magnesium, but this microscopic dose is of great importance.
Magnesium is involved in almost all biochemical processes in the body. It regulates the functioning of the nervous and cardiovascular systems, participates in the production of more than 300 important enzymes.
In addition, it supports bone health, helps synthesize protein and energy, and is also responsible for relaxing muscles. And this is only part of its functions, the doctor notes.
Magnesium deficiency occurs due to stress, alcohol, certain medications, diabetes, diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, kidneys and other health disorders. A person becomes irritable, anxious, tearfulness and disorders of the nervous system appear, up to depression.
Diabetes can develop due to increased sugar cravings and developing insulin resistance. Constant fatigue, increased fatigue begins to torment. This is because cells cannot produce enough energy, the professor warns.
Due to a lack of magnesium, calcium cannot be absorbed normally, which leads to the development of bone diseases. Leg cramps begin - it is in the large leg muscles that "magnesium depots" are located, which are sensitive to its deficiency.
A person begins to be bothered by "causeless" headaches, because of the narrowing of blood vessels and insufficient nutrition of the brain, concentration deteriorates and memory decreases.
An imbalance in magnesium and calcium, which affects relaxation and tension in the heart muscle, can lead to irregular heart rhythms.
To avoid these problems, it is recommended to check the level of magnesium in the body. With a strong shortage of it, drugs will help to fill the deficit. To correct a small deviation, 400-500 mg of magnesium per day is sufficient.
Magnesium is also found in some foods such as seeds, nuts, bran, cocoa, green leafy vegetables, broccoli, kohlrabi, bananas, avocados, and cereals.
“Do you want your affairs of the heart to be in order, and to make you feel happy? Then avoid stress, eat a variety of foods and keep track of your magnesium levels!”Advised Aleksey Kovalkov.
