MOSCOW, July 24 - RIA Novosti. The volume of the abdomen in men at the navel level should not exceed 94 centimeters, and in women - 80 centimeters, a member of the Russian National Society of Nutritionists Lyudmila Denisenko told Izvestia.

Everything above is related to obesity.

"A fold of skin under the shoulder blade, if it protrudes from the girth with two fingers, also indicates obesity," the nutritionist explained.

A more accurate method is bioimpedance, that is, the measurement of body composition on a special device, thanks to which you can accurately find out the amount of fat, as well as muscle and fluid. If excess weight is in the range of three to five kilograms, then the problem, according to Denisenko, is "purely aesthetic." It can be addressed with dietary restrictions and adequate exercise.

If there is more excess weight, then the problem is medical and a doctor's consultation is needed to solve it - he will determine the necessary examinations, and also correct nutrition and physical activity. The doctor, according to Denisenko, will find out what deficiency in the body has led to weight gain: for example, vitamin D, A, group B, C, as well as Omega-3. In addition, problems with sex hormones or thyroid hormones, as well as with cortisol, prolactin or iodine, are common.

On the eve of the head of the Federal Research Center for Nutrition, Biotechnology and Food Safety, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Viktor Tutelyan said that about 60 percent of Russians are overweight, and a quarter of Russians are obese. It, as the specialist recalled, is a risk factor for the development of cardiovascular diseases and diabetes mellitus.
