According to the expert, the use of antibiotics for self-medication can cause serious side effects.
Professor of the Department of Hospital Therapy at Sechenov University, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Sergei Yakovlev warned about the possible dangers of using antibiotics in the treatment of coronavirus.
Since COVID-19 is a viral infection and antibiotics target bacteria, the use of such drugs will at best have no effect on the course of the disease. However, self-medication with antibiotics often causes serious side effects and also builds drug resistance in microbes.
The use of antibiotics is permissible if a viral infection is complicated by a bacterial one, and only as directed by a specialist.
“This happens seven to ten days after the onset of the disease. Only a doctor can decide whether antibiotics are needed or not. If he prescribed, it is necessary to take”, - reports the words of the doctor aif.ru.
