The “Without Rivers as Without Hands” Foundation has analyzed the water of the Volga River. The survey revealed a high percentage of microplastics. There are about 4 particles per thousand liters of water. These elements pose a serious threat to all living organisms that live in water. The length of the investigated section was almost 400 kilometers. On this section of the river, there are cities such as Tver, Rzhev. In Russia, there is no scale of standards for the content of microplastics in water. Therefore, scientists have to draw conclusions about exceeding the maximum level of particles according to their own parameters. They are developed on the basis of research by foreign scientists. Tatiana Shishova, a participant of the project "Without rivers, without hands," believes that most of the plastic gets into rivers from communal systems. In addition, water is polluted by industrial discharges. Plastic material is recognized in all countries as one of the main environmental pollutants. There are no technological solutions for extracting plastic particles from water. The Scandinavian countries have made great strides in water analysis. They managed to develop a methodology for the study and detection of plastic microparticles. Next year, the researchers intend to check the water condition of other large Russian rivers.
