There is a method against pain - a psychological one. In their study, in contrast to drugs, an international group of scientists from Germany and the UK proposed a new method of overcoming pain, based on the countdown, according to planet-today.ru.
Experts from the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich and their colleagues from the University of Oxford have figured out how to "trick" the brain and block pain. Participants in the study were required to cope with pain by counting from 1000 in increments of 7.
The volunteers were divided into three groups. Pain was caused to them with the help of cold. Members of one group were engaged in the countdown, the second group tried to fight the pain, thinking about the beautiful, the third - convinced themselves that in fact there was no pain. Physiological responses, in particular brain activity, were monitored using MRI.
As a result of the experiment, the volunteers rated the pain intensity on a scale from 0 to 100 points. Studying the data obtained, the scientists concluded that those who used the countdown technique were the best ones to suppress pain.
As one of the authors of the research project, Enrico Schultz, noted, in the process of performing a countdown with a step of 7 in a person, the left and right hemispheres are activated simultaneously. This leaves little resources for pain centers. As a result, the pain is reduced by about half.
