Director of the Gamaleya Research Center, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Gintsburg commented for RBC on the ban on alcohol before vaccination against coronavirus, which created a stir in society. The academician's explanations were published today, December 9. According to him, there is no question of a complete ban on alcohol for vaccination, you can drink alcohol, however, without getting carried away. It is prescribed to limit the use of alcohol so that the body forms an immune response. Doctors strongly advise against drinking for three days after each injection. This is the standard recommendation for any vaccination and any vaccine, Gunzburg recalled. Also, according to the scientist, within 42 days, while immunity to coronavirus is being formed, it is not recommended to take medications that suppress the immune system. Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova said that alcohol should be avoided during the entire period of vaccination against coronavirus - 42 days, since the drug is administered in two stages after 21 days. The Deputy Prime Minister warned that during the same period it is necessary to exclude drugs that suppress the immune system. The head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, was in solidarity with her, who advised not to take alcohol even two weeks before the vaccination. Experts interviewed by RBC agree that alcohol consumption should be limited during vaccination. According to Alexander Chepurnov, a researcher at the Center for Fundamental and Translational Medicine, Professor of Virology, this is a traditional recommendation. Alexei Agranovsky, a virologist and professor at Moscow State University, also noted that alcohol abuse should not interfere with the body's immune response. But both specialists were allowed to drink a little champagne after vaccination, since a good mood for immunity is no less important than giving up excesses.
