Therapist, urologist and ENT during a cold - earlier a man's trip to the clinic was limited to these doctors. But 2020 has put everything in its place, and health care is now not a luxury, but a necessity. Together with a cardiologist, we have compiled a male annual list of required examinations.
Olga Kozlova, therapist-cardiologist of the federal network of expert oncology clinics "Euroonco", Ph.D.
The number of women in Russia constantly exceeds the number of men. According to Rosstat, there are 1,154 women per 1,000 men. And it's not about the birth rate, but about the higher mortality among the stronger sex - on average, they live ten years less.
How do I change statistics? To reduce the risks of diseases of the cardiovascular system and oncology, which, according to the WHO, remain the leading causes of death among men.
In addition to giving up bad habits that provoke these diseases, regular prevention and early diagnosis are important - any disease is easier to prevent than to cure. We figure out what examinations need to be done depending on age.
Up to 40 years old
Men at this age are usually active, go in for sports, work hard and often do not think about possible illnesses. But after 30 years in males, the risk of heart attack significantly increases, while in women, a later onset of coronary heart disease is due to the protective effect of estrogens. In addition, with poor heredity, bad habits, excess weight and a sedentary lifestyle, a planned annual examination is mandatory.
Initial consultation with a therapist. Laboratory tests: general blood test, general urine analysis, biochemical parameters (creatinine, urea, glucose, AST, ALT, total bilirubin, total protein), blood lipid spectrum, thyroid hormones, blood tests for infections (HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B, C). Regular examination for sexually transmitted infections is also mandatory. Instrumental examinations: ECG, chest x-ray (CT) or low-dose computed tomography (CT) of the lungs, pelvic ultrasound (transabdominal), ultrasound of the abdominal cavity and kidneys, adrenal glands, thyroid ultrasound glands.
After receiving the results, if necessary, the therapist will prescribe further examination and consultation of narrow specialists.
After 40 years
In men after 40 years of age, the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases, the appearance of malignant neoplasms is significantly increased, metabolic changes are more often diagnosed. Therefore, even in the absence of alarming symptoms and good health, it is necessary to undergo an annual examination. It will help in time to identify the initial signs of atherosclerosis, high blood pressure, heart rhythm disturbances, inflammatory diseases and changes in carbohydrate metabolism.
The check-up program for men 45-50 years old is aimed at identifying specific risk factors for this age (even in the absence of complaints), as well as in order to control chronic diseases and in the absence of pronounced symptoms. It includes:
1. Initial consultation with a therapist. 2. Laboratory tests: general blood test, general urine analysis, biochemical parameters (creatinine, urea, glucose, AST, ALT, total bilirubin, total protein), blood lipid spectrum, thyroid hormones, blood tests for infections (
HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B, C), tumor markers (total PSA, free PSA), testosterone level determination.
It is by the age of 40, in the presence of risk factors, frequent stress and low physical activity, that the first signs of erectile dysfunction may appear. Therefore, determining the level of testosterone is very important. When it decreases, men experience hair loss, a decrease in exercise tolerance and endurance, and a lack of sexual desire.
3. Instrumental examinations: ECG, echocardiography, ultrasound of the brachiocephalic arteries, radiography of the OGC or low-dose CT of the lungs, ultrasound of the small pelvis (transabdominal), ultrasound of the abdominal cavity and kidneys, adrenal glands, ultrasound of the thyroid gland. 4. A colonoscopy is required for this age group. In Russia, due to the statistics of colon cancer detection, such an examination is indicated for all patients over 45 years old.
After the examination, in the absence of pathology, the therapist will give recommendations on sleep and rest, nutrition and physical activity.
Many diseases in the initial stages are asymptomatic, and the success of the entire treatment depends on early detection of the disease and the absence of complications. Therefore, try to undergo an annual preventive examination for a full and active life at any age.]]>
