Antibiotics do not help in the treatment of COVID-19, they are only intended for bacterial diseases, said the chief microbiologist and antimicrobial resistance specialist of the Russian Ministry of Health, Roman Kozlov.
According to him, there is no need to self-medicate and use these drugs unnecessarily. He referred to a study according to which a huge number of patients with coronavirus on outpatient treatment begin to drink antibiotics.
However, in the future, with a bacterial infection, the antibiotic may not work on the pathogen. In addition, such drugs can only worsen the condition of a patient with COVID-19, deaths are not excluded, the "360" TV channel reports.
Recall that 62% of Russians know that antibiotics are used against bacteria.
According to a study by the StadHealth Report, 47% of the country's residents are sure that this type of medicine also treats viruses. Another 24% said that antibiotics can help against fungi, 11% - against tumors, 11% of study participants are sure that drugs will help in all these situations.
