MOSCOW, April 20 - RIA Novosti. It is best to donate blood to donors before lunchtime, then the body will be able to quickly recover and the procedure will be easier, according to the website of the Blood Service of the FMBA of Russia.
National Blood Donor Day is celebrated on Saturday. The holiday is dedicated primarily to the donors themselves - people who donate blood for the benefit of the health and life of other people. Also, this day is dedicated to doctors who take blood, control the sanitary state of blood transfusion stations, develop methods and equipment.
"Doctors have found that the body reacts best to blood loss in the morning. And the earlier donation occurs, the easier this procedure is tolerated. After 12.00, it is recommended to donate blood only to regular donors," the message says.
In addition, on the eve and on the day of donating blood, you cannot eat fatty, fried, spicy and smoked foods, as well as eggs, butter, chocolate, nuts and dates, but you don’t need to donate blood on an empty stomach either, it is specified on the website.
Before donating, it is better to give preference to cereals, pasta, vegetables and fruits, to drink sweet tea or fruit drink, the message says.
Two days before a visit to the blood service, you must not drink alcohol, and 72 hours before donating blood, take medications that contain aspirin and analgesics, at least an hour before donation, you must stop smoking, the website says.
After donating blood, you should avoid physical exertion and lifting weights, eat well and regularly, including drinking at least two liters of fluid a day, but it is better to refuse alcohol, the message explains.
If, after donating blood, the donor feels dizzy or weak, it is better to see a doctor, but you can try and help yourself: lie on your back and raise your legs above your head or sit down and lower your head between your knees, added the blood service.
According to the recommendations of the Ministry of Health, men can donate blood without harm to their health five times a year, women - four.
Earlier it was reported that in Russia in 2018 more than 1.2 million people became blood donors, while they made 2.5 million donations, 96.5% were made free of charge.
