MOSCOW, 18 Nov - PRIME. There are two predictions for the end of the coronavirus pandemic, and both are related to vaccination. This opinion is shared by Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Head of the Laboratory of Biotechnology and Virology at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Novosibirsk State University, Professor Sergei Netesov, reports "Lenta.ru".
According to the optimistic scenario, the epidemic will end in a year - in the fall of 2021. On the pessimistic side - only two years later.
"Everything will depend on whether they manage to produce enough vaccines to vaccinate at least 75% of the world's population. Of course, in some countries the epidemic may end earlier. But for this it will be necessary to vaccinate not 75% of the population, but probably percent 90 ", - said the scientist.
He explained that 75% of the recovered or vaccinated population is exactly as much as is required to develop herd immunity on the planet. Naturally (without vaccines) this will happen only after 8-12 years.
