Vladimir Dolokhov, head of the Laboratory of Sleep and Wakefulness Neurobiology, Institute of Higher Nervous Activity and Neurophysiology, Russian Academy of Sciences, in an interview with Nation News, assessed the study on the possible danger of prolonged sleep.

“Regarding the study itself, it must be said that the survey method is not objective and does not reflect the true quality of sleep,” he said.

According to him, in practice, a person cannot fully sleep for 10 hours, since the body simply does not need it. As Dolokhov explained, this is only possible with sleep deprivation.

“And during the day a person sleeps only because he does not get enough sleep at night. If he has a normal sleep, then it is recommended to sleep no more than 30 minutes during the day. If you sleep more, it will already have a bad effect on the work in the afternoon,”the expert said.

He added that the night's norm is six to seven hours of sleep.

Earlier, TASS, citing a study published in the journal Neurology, reported that older people who sleep more than one and a half hours a day or more than nine hours at night are more likely to suffer from a stroke.

In 2018, Dorokhov, in an interview with NSN, assessed the conclusions of American scientists that chronic lack of sleep leads to a drop in attention fivefold and doubles the reaction time.
