Exercise can reduce the risk of painful headaches. This is the conclusion reached by the authors of a new study. At the same time, only two and a half hours of physical activity per week is sufficient to reduce the risk of developing migraines.

In the study, staff at the University of Washington Headache Clinic in Seattle looked at how much physical activity is present in the lives of 4,500 people with migraines. It turned out that about 73% played sports less than two and a half hours a week, writes the Daily Mail.

Regular exercise, on the other hand, has proven to be an effective way to reduce the frequency and intensity of migraines. With enough exercise in people's lives, their sleep quality also improved and they were less likely to suffer from anxiety.

Exercise triggers the release of endorphins, which are natural pain relievers that reduce stress and help people sleep better, ultimately easing migraines, according to study author Dr. Mason Dyes of the University of Washington in Seattle.

The exact cause of the disease is unknown, but migraines are thought to be caused by abnormal brain activity that affects nerve signals, chemicals, and blood vessels in the brain.

It is worth noting that two and a half hours of physical activity per week is the minimum threshold recommended by the World Health Organization.
