What can wearing a heel lead to and how to choose the ideal height? Let's try to figure it out.

A large-scale study conducted by specialists from the University of Queensland (Australia) led by Dr. Neil Cronin identified the following hazards that are directly related to the frequent wearing of high-heeled shoes.

First, walking in high heels increases the load on the knee joint by 26%, which increases the risk of osteoarthritis.

Second, wearing high heels with pointed toes can pinch the nerve that runs between the metatarsal heads, which can contribute to what is known as Morton's neuralgia.

Thirdly, when wearing high-heeled shoes, the center of gravity of the body goes forward, which entails a violation of the straightness of the spine.

Fourth, a high heel, combined with constant pressure from a rigid strap and shoe heels, can contribute to the appearance of Achilles tendon bursitis, the so-called Haglund deformity (inflammation of the joint capsule located between the Achilles tendon and the skin).

Finally, the higher the heels, the more the calf muscles tense, from which they are deformed and denser.

Canadian doctor Victor Celeste also believes that frequent wearing of high-heeled shoes can lead to a loss of interest in sex - frigidity. According to the doctor, this is due to the fact that because of the heels, free access of blood to the pelvic area is limited. However, there is also a directly opposite point of view. A study by Dr. Maria Cerruto of the University of Verona found that wearing heels can, on the contrary, stimulate blood circulation in the pelvis and even develop muscles that influence orgasm.

Dr. Pawlowski from the University of Wroclaw, Poland, conducted a study involving about a hundred volunteers. His goal was to find out what kind of person the ideal silhouette of a leg appears to be. It turned out that most of the participants in the experiment chose as "ideal legs" those that were visually lengthened by about 5%.

Everyone knows that heels visually lengthen the legs, now we have scientific confirmation that this is really important for a large part of the respondents. However, the main thing here is to know when to stop, since too long legs were "rejected" by the research participants.

A woman in high heels becomes taller, which means she is more confident. It is no coincidence that the first of women to wear heels was the wife of Henry II, Catherine de Medici, in order to overcome the complex in front of a tall husband. In addition, if we talk about heels as a sexual fetish, it must be said that a woman wearing them is perceived to be more vulnerable - it is difficult to flee in heels.

During pregnancy

Girls who are accustomed to high heels will have to give them up during late pregnancy. So says physician Hilda Hutcherson, M.D., professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Columbia University Medical Center. The fact is that, firstly, during pregnancy, the center of gravity shifts forward, and the total effect of wearing high heels (in which the center of gravity is also shifted) will negatively affect the spine.

Also, during pregnancy, body weight increases, the risk of dislocations, varicose veins and other unpleasant symptoms increases. A high heel can speed up their appearance.

According to obstetrician Raisa Zyablikova, it is also not worth switching to shoes without heels at all. This can contribute to the development of flat feet and the same varicose veins. As in everything, you need to adhere to the "golden mean", wear shoes with heels no higher than 3-4 centimeters.

Perfect size

Fashion designers (for example, Christian Louboutin) claim that the ideal heel size is 11 cm. In principle, their opinion is understandable, but it is biased and cannot be considered objective. Better to listen to orthopedists. They offer a simple formula for calculating the ideal heel: the length of the foot divided by seven. There are also more complex formulas that are derived taking into account the theory of proportionality, but why complicate it if there is a simple recommendation? In general, doctors advise not to abuse wearing heels above 4 centimeters.

Bad habit

The constant wearing of high-heeled shoes can irreversibly affect not only the structure of the legs, but also the entire circulatory system of the body. The already mentioned Dr. Neil Cronin is convinced that high-heeled shoes can be worn no more than 2-3 times a week, otherwise there is a risk of earning bad symptoms in old age. The habit of constantly wearing stiletto heels can also lead to painful sensations when changing shoes. Of course, girls should not abuse wearing high-heeled shoes - they will be healthier.
