Viktor Zykov, a member of the coordinating council for tobacco control under the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, spoke about the changes in the current law in an interview with Sputnik radio.
He noted that cigarette substitutes in the form of Tobacco Heating Devices (IQOS) are becoming more and more popular. Many people believe that this device is not harmful to health, but it is still dangerous for the human body. In early 2021, the Ministry of Health will adopt new rules for the trade of such gadgets for smoking.
Advertising of tobacco heating devices will be prohibited. However, displaying goods on showcases in retail outlets will still be legal.
“Basically, all the provisions of the anti-tobacco law that apply to cigarettes will apply to heated tobacco and tobacco heating systems,” explained a member of the coordinating council.
From January 28, the ban will apply to the layout of the sticks for smoking devices. Despite this, the display of direct electronic heating systems will not be prohibited.
