SIMFEROPOL, March 1 - RIA Novosti Crimea. It is possible to avoid complications during influenza and acute respiratory viral infections by including foods high in vitamin C in the diet. Vera Pavlova, a doctor-methodologist at the Center for Medical Prevention of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Crimea, told Sputnik in Crimea radio.
"This is not only oranges, tangerines, lemons, but also sauerkraut, fresh herbs. This is not a panacea, just vitamin C strengthens the walls of blood vessels, and the flu is capillary toxicosis, it affects the vessels, and even if a person has enough vitamin C, but he got sick, he is more likely that the flu will not cause complications, "Pavlova warns.
She also recommends including in the diet lean meat - a protein "which is well absorbed and promotes the production of antibodies and other protein defenses in the body."
There must be fish on the menu. It contains omega-3 acids, which, according to Pavlova, also help to strengthen the immune system. Fermented milk products should not be neglected: "they help to improve the intestinal microflora and thus support the immune system."
Most of the diet should be high-fiber foods (cereals, fruits and vegetables). Drinking plenty of water also helps to improve the condition, Pavlova answers.
"The virus is an intracellular parasite, under the influence of a viral disease the cell dies. The body leaves the decay products - toxins. It is because of intoxication that we feel a headache, fever, and drinking plenty of water helps to eliminate toxins," she assured.
