The 72-year-old grandfather fell ill with coronavirus in the summer and suffered a serious illness. The grandfather was taken to the infectious diseases hospital of the RCH. The doctors had to connect it to oxygen. During his illness, he lost 14 kg of weight.

In addition to coronavirus, the man suffered from atherosclerosis, when blood vessels in the body become clogged with cholesterol. One morning he found that his leg was literally "dry". He did not attach much importance to this and decided to be treated with folk remedies. And only after a month of unsuccessful "treatment" he turned to the doctors.

"By that time, a trophic ulcer had formed on the leg […] It turned out that after the coronavirus infection, the blood vessels of the left leg clogged with blood clots. The infection simply aggravated the thrombosis and atherosclerosis that the man suffered," the press service said.

Grandfather was threatened with amputation of his leg. However, doctors of the Vascular Surgery Department of the RCH restored blood circulation in the leg with the help of a vascular prosthesis. The leg turned pink, which means that the blood supply was restored.

Scientists have previously discovered a new dangerous consequence of the coronavirus.
