ANNUNCIATION, November 9. / TASS /. The Government of the Amur Region has purchased 6 thousand doses of vaccine against pneumococcal infection for the population over 60 years old. Immunization will begin in mid-November, the regional government's press service said on Monday.

"Six thousand doses of vaccine against pneumococcal infection for people over 60 years old, namely those who suffer from chronic diseases of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems, diabetes mellitus, with a weakened immune system, have been purchased in the Amur Region. Immunization will begin in mid-November," says in the message.

On behalf of Governor Vasily Orlov, the vaccination program against pneumococcal infection of risk groups was updated, which will reduce the incidence of community-acquired pneumonia and the number of complications from COVID-19. 10 million rubles were allocated from the regional budget for the purchase of the vaccine.

The region recorded 1,051 cases of coronavirus in a week. In the majority of those infected, the disease proceeds as ARVI (66%), in 27% as pneumonia, and in 7% it is asymptomatic. Of the cases, 36% are people over the age of 50. In total, 7,874 cases of infection with a new coronavirus infection have been detected in the Amur Region since the beginning of the pandemic, 63 people have died.
