The State Duma Committee on Health Protection of the Russian Federation is thinking about doctors who do not dare to have abortions because of religion. According to committee member Tatyana Tsybizova, in theory, it is possible to allow doctors to refuse to carry out the abortion procedure, but in practice this innovation can turn against both patients and doctors.
Earlier, the Russian Orthodox Church called for allowing doctors to refuse to carry out abortions on religious grounds. Tsybizova, on the other hand, believes that doctors should answer this question for themselves before they enter a medical school, and not after receiving a diploma of relevant education. In her opinion, all doctors should work in equal conditions, there should be no exceptions.
“It is unlikely that the administration of a hospital or the head of the department will welcome the fact that, for example, one doctor will not do this manipulation for religious beliefs, and all the rest will,” RIA Novosti quotes Tsybizova.
In addition, according to her, sometimes one has to deal with such situations when an abortion is necessary for medical reasons. It is not clear how a physician should behave in this case, refusing to carry out such a procedure for religious reasons. Therefore, it is pointless to say that this innovation will see the light of day in Russia in the near future, because we are talking about the professional duty of doctors.
