The depression that occurs in some COVID-19 patients is explained by the experience of loss - with coronavirus, a person loses, for example, sense of smell and physical activity. The nature of such depression was described by a psychotherapist, candidate of medical sciences Anton Yezhov on the air of the radio station "Moscow speaking".
“Depressive perception of reality is characterized by fixation on what is not and ignoring what is. The condition from this deteriorates significantly. Therefore, as a reference point, I would recommend paying attention to what is. Find some resources in the outside world and in yourself, something that you can rely on,”advised Yezhov.
If the emotional state goes beyond the limits, it is recommended to contact a specialist and get the necessary treatment, the doctor said. Ignoring depression can be dangerous, he warned.
Earlier, the doctor and TV presenter Yevgeny Komarovsky explained how the coronavirus affects the human psyche. According to him, up to 30 percent of patients with severe coronavirus do indeed suffer from depression and attempt suicide.
