Computed tomography is not recommended without a doctor's prescription due to the concomitant ionizing radiation procedure. The site "Arguments and Facts" informs about it. According to Andrei Tikhmyanov, a radiologist of the highest category, the results of a CT scan are not specific for certain types of infections. That is, the absence of changes in the lungs against the background of tomography is not a sign of the absence of COVID-19 in the body. "At the same time, CT reveals changes in the lungs in a significant number of patients with asymptomatic and mild forms of the disease who do not require hospitalization. The results of CT in these cases do not affect the tactics of treatment and the prognosis of the disease in the presence of laboratory confirmation of COVID-19," the specialist noted. … The basis for the appointment of a CT scan is specific clinical indications and risk factors that accompany mild and severe ARVI symptoms. At the same time, it is unreasonable to conduct a study earlier than 3-5 days after the onset of symptoms, the doctor explained. The chief specialist in radiation and instrumental diagnostics of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, Professor Igor Tyurin, earlier said that the demand for computed tomography of the lungs has increased in medical institutions, and a significant part of patients expect to do it without direct instructions from the attending physician.
