Checking the lungs with computed tomography (CT) for no reason and “just in case” carries risks. Such a statement on Thursday, October 22, was made by the expert of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation on radiation and instrumental diagnostics, Igor Tyurin.
According to him, the danger is primarily due to the fact that CT is not able to detect infections. Moreover, it brings a load to the health care system, reports AGN "Moscow".
The specialist indicated what signs are indications for CT. We are talking about shortness of breath and a temperature above 39 degrees. In addition, lungs can be checked if a person has not only symptoms of a respiratory viral infection, but also serious risk factors - chronic diseases or excess weight. “I urge citizens not to do computed tomography“just in case,”Tyurin said.
Earlier, the pathologist explained how the coronavirus affects human organs. According to the expert, the lungs are becoming the main target. “There is massive swelling,” the doctor said.
