Women are more prone to latent alcoholism than men due to the fact that they need less alcohol to get drunk, Olga Korotina, a researcher at the outpatient medical rehabilitation department of the Serbsky branch of the National Medical Research Center of the Ministry of Healthcare of the Russian Federation, told News.ru. According to her, this creates in women the illusion of the safety of consuming small doses, which in fact turns into an addiction. "If men become alcoholic, then many women are latent alcoholics, who, as a result, sometimes go to a severe stage of the disease," Korotina noted. The specialist emphasized that female alcoholism has stronger social consequences than male alcoholism. According to her, this is due to the fact that the upbringing of children largely depends on women. Earlier, Rosstat named the regions with the most drinking women. Thus, the greatest adherence to alcohol consumption among women is observed in the Jewish Autonomous Region. In this region, women drink over 84 grams of alcohol per week, calculated as ethanol. Women also frequently consume alcohol in the Chukotka Autonomous Oblast, Arkhangelsk Oblast, Khabarovsk Krai and Murmansk Oblast. At the same time, Ingushetia, Kabardino-Balkaria, Kaluga and Tambov regions, as well as North Ossetia, face this problem least of all. On average, 1.9% of women in Russia drink more than the norm.
