- For the first time, we learned about the light version of the Russian vaccine against coronavirus infection in mid-December at a press conference. Our president announced it, and later Alexander Gintsburg, director of the Nikolai Gamaleya Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, told the details. This is not a new drug, it is the first component of the Sputnik V anti-coronavirus vaccine,”the virologist explained.

The doctor said that the creation of the second component of the vaccine is the most difficult, it is based on adenovirus of the fifth serotype. According to the physician, experimentally, scientists have established that after vaccination with the first component using the basis of the 26th serotype adenovirus as a vector, immunity from COVID-19 is developed, however, in a smaller number of people.

Akinfiev explained that after exposure to the two-component vaccine, 97 percent of those vaccinated develop immunity, and Sputnik Light is able to provide protection to 85 percent of those vaccinated, which is also a significant success. The infectious disease specialist clarified that the antibodies produced by the first component of the vaccine will last in the blood for about six months.

“The first component is done much faster, and the Sputnik Light vaccine is cheaper than the Sputnik V vaccine. Russia plans to supply this drug to other countries. The described actions will provide large-scale vaccination, - the doctor emphasized.

The interlocutor of "Evening Moscow", referring to the information voiced by the authors of the vaccine, said that immunity against coronavirus after vaccination with "Sputnik V" should exist for two years.
