The nutritionist and leading researcher of the Federal Nutrition Center of Nutrition told the NSN what problems await fasting fans and why nutrition for pensioners should be dealt with at the state level. The former chief sanitary doctor of the Russian Federation Gennady Onishchenko advised the elderly to live "a little from hand to mouth" and engage in physical activity to maintain tone. He spoke about this in an interview with Rambler News Service. Meanwhile, Russian pensioners and older people often already abuse fasting, often driving themselves to death, said a leading researcher at the Federal Research Center of Nutrition, co-developer of recipes for products for the elderly, Ph.D. Arseny Martinchik. According to him, this is due to a decrease in appetite and loss of energy, which would allow them to deal with the preparation of the diet. That is why, in his opinion, it is necessary to organize meals for elderly fellow citizens in Russia. Pensioners will be given a fish oil smoothie “The problem of an elderly person is that their appetite decreases. Many of our citizens have no teeth. It is difficult for them to navigate among advertisements, bright packaging. Moreover, the very process of choosing food and cooking requires energy from the elderly. But she is not. A person reduces his consumption even in purely quantitative terms. And this again leads to an even greater weakening of the body. And such a vicious circle is born, and often old people simply die due to malnutrition. Therefore, it is necessary to organize meals for the elderly,”the expert concluded. However, both nutrition and fasting are different. So, for those wishing to maintain harmony, American scientists from the Salk Institute suggested intermittent fasting. It assumes a diet in which all food for the day is taken within 10 hours, which makes it possible to compensate for metabolic disorders associated with a violation of the daily cycle. But even such curative fasting can harm the body, Ksenia Selezneva, a nutritionist, gastroenterologist, and candidate of medical sciences, noted on the NSN broadcast. “Nowadays, such food systems are gaining more and more popularity, where a person is given a certain number of hours a day, when he can eat completely calmly, but after that a sufficiently long period of abstinence from food must follow, you can only drink water, tea without sugar. This is called intermittent fasting. It is believed that the same processes occur in the body as during complete starvation. All this contributes to better health. Such a diet, like any other, must necessarily be discussed with a specialist. For those who have problems with the gastrointestinal tract, nutritionists cannot always recommend prolonged abstinence from food,”said the nutritionist. Let us add that it is hardly possible to call the older generation of Russia healthy and, moreover, ready for life "a little from hand to mouth". So, everyone who wants to follow the advice of Mr. Onishchenko should first consult a doctor and find out what their general state of health is.
