In warm weather, Muscovites try to get out into nature. At a picnic, townspeople most often use disposable plastic plates and cutlery. Food chemist-technologist Sergei Belkov told "VM" whether it is worth avoiding such dishes.
- Of course, there is nothing to be afraid of, - the expert immediately emphasized. - Modern disposable tableware is made from safe materials. If we are talking about plastic bottles, then water can be poured into them at least a hundred times, at least a thousand, both cold and hot. And if at the same time some harmful substances are released, then in negligible quantities. This does not cause any harm to health. A plastic bottle is one of the safest containers in the world, comparable to glass bottles in terms of safety.
If we talk about safety measures, then it is better not to overheat plastic dishes.
“It’s not necessary to allow it to start melting,” noted Sergei Belkov. - This usually happens at temperatures from 100 degrees. You need to understand that the production of plastic dishes is very highly regulated, and harmful materials are practically not used in its production. But if the plate says "not for hot foods", then you don't need to put them there. For example, if you put a kebab on it, which you just brought from the grill, it will not melt. And shish kebab - food itself is so harmful that it is more likely to harm your body.
