The soloist of the Novaya Opera theater, Alexei Antonov, felt bad right at the rehearsal. He was performing a part from the opera "The Force of Destiny" by Verdi when he suddenly lost consciousness.

"I fainted. Then I woke up, they called an ambulance. I couldn't lie on the back of my head, it hurt," recalls Alexei Antonov, soloist of the Moscow Novaya Opera Theater.

He was admitted to the Botkin hospital in a reanimobile in a serious condition. Computed tomography showed extensive cerebral hemorrhage, so Alexei was urgently sent for cerebral angiography. This is how they discovered a large aneurysm of the right carotid artery, the correspondent of the Vesti-Moscow program reports.

"You can see here a large vascular sac in the shape of a figure eight, which is an aneurysm. The thinnest part - the bottom of the aneurysm - most often ruptures," says Alexander Gorozhanin, head of the neurosurgery department of the GKB im. Botkin.

The aneurysm was found to be congenital. At the same time, there were no symptoms of the disease. All my life on one of the main vessels feeding the brain, there was a volumetric formation. It could burst at any moment, threatening life, and this happened at 45 years old.

Neurosurgeon Alexander Gorozhanin figuratively compares the operation to eliminate the aneurysm with a "cat's hunt" - a long preparatory stage. It is necessary to remove all blood clots from the brain (otherwise the patient will die) and carefully select the necessary vessels.

The difficult stage of preparation is completed, the most crucial moment of the operation is coming: surgeons have only 60 seconds and only 1 chance of success. All actions of doctors should be lightning fast. They place two temporary clips to remove the aneurysm from the bloodstream and then repair the abnormality.

"Such a short period of time is necessary to exclude the likelihood of ischemia. Because during these 60 seconds blood did not flow to sufficiently large parts of the brain, right and left hemispheres. To linger a little, and this is a model of ischemic stroke," explains Alexander Gorozhanin, head Department of Neurosurgery, GKB im. Botkin.

And everything worked out - three follow-up studies after the operation showed a complete recovery of the brain.

“The team of doctors worked a miracle. Because there was a big aneurysm and a lot of blood. The fact that I’m talking to you now is a miracle,” says Alexei Antonov, soloist of the Novaya Opera theater.

Alexei Antonov is waiting for a few more days of recovery, but then he will be able to return to the stage. He confesses that he will sing about "The Force of Destiny" in a new way.
