On the eve of the New Year holidays, nutritionists share tips and advice on how to make a feast healthier and safer for the body. Therapist and nutritionist, associate professor of Omsk State Medical University Nikolay Nikolaev clarified whether it is possible to drink strong drinks after champagne.
Champagne is a traditional drink at the New Year's feast: it is simply impossible to imagine a holiday without it. In his interview about the rules for drinking alcohol on New Year's, the doctor explained: champagne drunk under the chimes will not interfere with later drinking cognac or vodka.
“I know that there is a widespread opinion that after light alcoholic beverages one should not consume strong alcoholic beverages. Now, this is a delusion. In fact, you can mix champagne with other alcoholic beverages,”Nikolayev said.
At the same time, the therapist stressed that it is very important to control the amount of alcohol consumed during the feast. According to him, in the body of every adult, special enzymes are produced that contribute to the breakdown of alcohol.
The nutritionist noted: enzymes are produced in a volume that is enough to assimilate about 100-150 ml of vodka in one evening. If a person drinks only champagne, the body will be able to break down the amount two to three times greater.
“If you follow this norm, you will never experience a hangover state the next day, caused by oxidative processes in the remnants of alcohol“undigested”by the body and the formation of acetone,” the specialist assured.
