LONDON, 2 Dec - RIA Novosti, Denis Voroshilov. The coronavirus will probably never be eradicated, it will persist as a seasonal disease even with vaccination, said Jonathan Van Tam, deputy chief physician of England.

Britain on Wednesday certified a coronavirus vaccine. The UK Department of Health said a vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech was approved for use. The vaccine will become available throughout the UK within the next week. Mass vaccination will begin in the spring of 2021, approximately by May the most vulnerable categories of citizens, doctors, social workers and the elderly will receive the vaccine.

"I don't think the coronavirus will ever be eradicated, I think it may persist as a seasonal problem … the habits that we have learned now - the use of masks and sanitizers - may persist," Wang Tam said at a briefing in Wednesday evening.

According to the expert, rooms with poor ventilation, overcrowded spaces and places of close contact of people, especially in rooms, remain the most dangerous from the point of view of coronavirus infections.

"These are all modes of transmission," Wang Tam said.

At the same time, the scientist admitted that he was optimistic about the news about the certification of the first vaccine against coronavirus in Britain. More vaccines from different manufacturers are needed for successful immunization, he said.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who also took part in the briefing, agreed with the scientist.

“There is no need to be overly optimistic or naive to believe that the fight is over. This is not the case. Now we need to implement our winter plan (maintaining coronavirus restrictions across the country). The worst thing right now is to assume that we can relax, that the game and the fight with COVID completed. It is not. This is not the end, "Johnson said.

United Kingdom Health Secretary Matt Hancock said last week that life in the UK after the second wave of the pandemic will return to normal by Easter holidays in spring 2021, subject to successful vaccinations. However, the expert community warned that the coronavirus is still poorly understood and, probably, even with the formation of herd immunity, will return as a seasonal illness.
