A number of new drugs have been created in Russia that block the multiplication of coronavirus. They are at the stage of clinical trials, said the head of the Ministry of Health Mikhail Murashko. His words are quoted by TASS.

There are no data on the completion of clinical trials of these drugs yet. “They are under special control. But (…) there is no competition [between] vaccines and medicines,”the minister emphasized. According to him, doctors should have two levers of influence on the infection at once.

In addition, Murashko recalled that three innovative drugs for coronavirus have been registered in Russia.

In May 2020, the Ministry of Health approved the first drug for COVID-19, Favipiravir. On October 14, the department approved two more drugs for coronavirus - imported and domestic "Remdesivir".

Vaccination against coronavirus in Russia began on December 5, 2020 with doctors and teachers. Mass vaccination started on January 18th. Vaccinations are mainly given with Sputnik V, the world's first registered vaccine. According to President Vladimir Putin, "no other drugs of this kind demonstrate this level of protection and such a degree of safety."
