Russian general practitioner Philip Kuzmenko named in an interview with Sputnik radio the products that are prohibited from being consumed by those infected with the coronavirus.

According to the specialist, patients with COVID-19 need to limit the amount of salty foods in their diet. Maintaining the correct water-salt balance in the body is an indispensable part of the treatment of patients with coronavirus. “We need to limit the use of alcohol, because it contributes to dehydration in the first place,” he said.

In addition to dehydration, salty food also thickens the blood, which is harmful in coronavirus, he says. "Salt pulls off the liquid component in the tissue, and in the vessels themselves, thickening occurs," Kuzmenko explained.

Earlier, the head of the Consultative and Diagnostic Center "Healthy and Sports Nutrition", nutritionist Ekaterina Burlyaeva named products that will help strengthen the immune system and protect against coronavirus. According to her, vitamins A, C, D, E, B2, B6 and B12, folic acid, zinc, selenium, iron will be useful in the prevention of COVID-19. Vitamin D supports the production of specific antimicrobial proteins in the respiratory epithelium. Its deficiency increases the risk of respiratory infections.
