After that, he regained shape and continued to win sporting victories. Refusal from starchy foods and sweets is beneficial only if it is necessary for medical reasons, nutritionists are sure. More often this diet is used for weight loss, but the result does not always meet expectations.

Nutritionist and trainer Marie Spano explains: by eliminating flour from their diet, people begin to lose weight almost before our eyes. But not everyone understands that it is not fat that leaves, but liquid. The fact is that carbohydrates, which we get mainly from flour, are contained in the body in the form of glycogen - each gram of carbohydrates keeps 3-4 grams of water near it.

According to Marie Spano, giving up starchy foods, a person begins to experience insomnia, nausea, dizziness, and most importantly, his brain activity slows down. To make up for the lack of carbohydrates, which are the main supplier of energy, the body begins to use ketones - hydrocarbon particles. Their use leads to bad breath, weakness and chronic fatigue.

Gradually, the body gets used to the "new fuel", the symptoms of fatigue disappear, but ketones cannot be a 100% substitute for the energy supplier. The American Heart Association has published data showing that avoiding cereal products for 20-30 days affects the level of the neurotransmitter serotonin in the brain. This means that the fewer carbohydrates, the worse your mental health. In addition, grains help reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke, obesity, and even type 2 diabetes.

The experts of the association explain: carbohydrates are the main source of energy for the work of all organs, growth and cell division. Lacking carbohydrates, the body finds itself in an extreme situation: it first consumes glycogen stores, and then fats. During this period, his kidneys receive an enormous load, from which the entire body suffers. Marina Kopytko, Candidate of Medical Sciences, believes that theoretically it is possible to refuse flour altogether, but at the same time the body should receive all those useful substances that are contained in flour from other products. In practice, the doctor is sure, this is not recommended. So, wheat and rye contain 10 to 13 percent protein, 6 to 70 percent carbohydrates, 2.5 to 4 percent fat. Only 200 grams of bread a day covers a person's need for 25-30 percent of the daily intake of proteins, 30-40 - carbohydrates. In addition, bread allows you to partially meet the body's needs for calcium, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium and iron. Plus, of course, proteins. It is no coincidence that the expression "bread is the head of everything" was born in Russia.

And German scientists have found that by giving up only bread, a person is deprived of antioxidants that prevent the development of colon cancer. This was announced by Dr. Thomas Hofmann, the project manager for the study of the effects of cereals on the human body. By the way, German experts assure that there are much more nutrients in a bread crust than in a crumb. What's more, according to Dr. Hofmann, baked goods with a dark brown crust, as opposed to lightly baked, with a light crust, contain eight times more beneficial antioxidants. And these useful substances appear only in baked products - they are not in flour.

If we talk about the benefits of a diet without flour, nutritionists from different countries unanimously say: you should only refuse products made from refined flour: bread and rolls made of white flour, cookies and other things.So, experts from the Thomas Hofmann group explain: after eating flour products made from whole grain flour, even in small quantities, in addition to the fact that a person receives a large amount of nutrients, he does not feel hunger for a long time. And after products made from refined flour, after a short time, there is a desire to eat something.
