German doctors listed the changes that occur with the figure and health in general after giving up alcohol. Focus.de writes about it.
“If you can easily go without alcohol two days a week, then you are not addicted. But if during this period you constantly think about alcohol, then this is a reason to think seriously about your health,”says Jarmila Malmeister, chief physician of the Betty Ford clinic in Bad Brueckenau (Germany).
According to the expert, a person who drank daily and gave up the bad habit will notice positive changes already in the first sober week. As a rule, this is expressed in deeper and better quality sleep, increased productivity.
This starts the process of restoring normal liver function.
“The liver begins to actively break down the accumulated fats. Triglycerides decrease within a few days, cholesterol "lasts" longer. But in general, our liver recovers surprisingly quickly,”said Yarmila Malmeister.
After a month of abstinence from alcohol, as experiments have shown, people control their cravings for alcohol much better, feel more energetic, notice improved skin condition and lose weight.
Many also report improved sleep, lower blood pressure and good concentration.
“And most importantly, people are clearly aware that they do not need alcohol in order to have fun and rest,” explained doctor Richard Piper.
A year after giving up alcohol, metabolism, including the processes of digestion and burning fat, is faster.
In combination with increased efficiency, good sleep and physical activity, the person feels better than ever.
“If you drank two alcoholic drinks a day, then a year after refusal, you can easily lose up to 20 extra pounds. Since alcohol is very high in calories,”the experts noted.
