MOSCOW, November 11 - RIA Novosti. Scientists of the Novosibirsk Institute of Organic Chemistry. N. N. Vorozhtsov of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences have developed a drug based on betulonic acid obtained from the bark of birch, the action of which is aimed at the regeneration of cells of the liver, kidneys, lungs, bone marrow, helps to reduce the toxic effects of chemotherapy, antibiotic therapy, the press service of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation told RIA Novosti.

"The action of the drug" Betoxovit "is aimed at the regeneration of cells of the liver, kidneys, lungs, bone marrow, helps to reduce the toxic effects of chemotherapy, antibiotic therapy, and also has immunomodulatory and antiviral activity. The drug is the result of more than 20 years of research into the toxic and pharmacological properties obtained from birch bark betulonic acid at the Novosibirsk Institute of Organic Chemistry named after NN Vorozhtsov SB RAS ", - said in the message.

Scientists have confirmed the antioxidant, hepatoprotective, nephroprotective, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory and antitumor properties of the developed drug. According to Tatyana Tolstikova, head of the laboratory for pharmacological research at the NIOCH SB RAS, Betoxovit is primarily aimed at protecting internal organs from the toxic effects of chemotherapeutic agents used in the treatment of chronic diseases.

It is explained that betulonic acid helps to reduce inflammatory processes, increase the resistance of internal organs to the effects of pathogenic factors, normalizes functional activity and stimulates regenerative processes in cells, and has an immunomodulatory effect.

Betulonic acid, which "Betoxovit" contains, is obtained from the triterpenoid substance, betulin, contained in birch bark. Scientists' interest in triterpenoids is due to the fact that they increase the survival of organ cells in adverse conditions. These substances contribute to the regulation of pathological changes due to antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity. In addition, these compounds exhibit high antibacterial, antiviral, and antitumor activity.

It is noted that the scientists of the Novosibirsk Institute of Organic Chemistry. N. N. Vorozhtsov SB RAS are the only ones in the world who have gone all the way from studying the toxic and pharmacological action of a drug to the production and release of the final product available to people. Research on betulonic acid has been carried out at the institute since 1996. Experiments on transplanted tumors, fibrosis and cirrhosis of the liver, prostatitis, inflammation of various origins have shown the high efficiency of triterpenoids.

Irina Sorokina, a leading researcher at the LPI NIOKh SB RAS, explains that the use of herbal triterpenoids in complex therapy will significantly accelerate the process of recovery of people after chemotherapy and antibiotic therapy. Pharmacists from the Czech Republic and Belarus have already become interested in the remedy. Betoksovit will appear in pharmacies in Novosibirsk at the end of this week.
