The Russian pharmaceutical market grew faster than forecasted at the beginning of the year. Market dynamics in monetary terms amounted to 9.8% instead of the previously predicted 5-6%. At the same time, in 2020, pharmacies did not raise the markup for medicines - its average level remained at around 24%. This follows from the final data for 2020, summed up by the agency DSM Group, which specializes in the pharmaceutical market.

In monetary terms, the market volume exceeded two trillion rubles, which is 0.1 trillion more than in 2019.

At the same time, in volume terms, the market by the end of the year decreased by 4% - to 6 billion packs, which is also less than the previously predicted decline. At the same time, as noted in the agency, during the year there was a switch of consumers to purchase tablets in larger packages and more expensive drugs. So, if the number of tablets sold in packages showed a decrease by 2.3%, then in "pieces" it increased by 0.9%, while the largest increase in sales, plus 6%, was shown by packages containing more than 50 capsules or tablets.

The consumption of expensive drugs in 2020 increased by 45.5% in monetary terms, the demand for cheap drugs fell by 11% over the same period.

It is noted that the market grew to a greater extent due to non-prescription drugs, plus 13%, while the consumption of prescription drugs decreased by 8%. Experts also note that localized drugs had a higher dynamics in rubles - 17% versus 6% for imported ones.

In 2020, the weighted average cost of a package increased by 13% compared to 2019 and amounted to 225 rubles.
